Pupuseria El Cerro Verde--Inglewood
About This Spot
Stepping into Pupuseria El Cerro Verde feels like discovering a cherished neighborhood kitchen tucked just off a busy strip in Inglewood. The space is inviting in its modesty—a cozy enclave where the rhythm slows down enough to savor something truly homemade. It’s a place where plates arrive steaming and the comforting hum of soft conversation fills the air, creating an easy warmth that wraps around you.
The pace here is unhurried but attentive, making it perfect for a quiet lunch break or a relaxed evening meal. Though modest in size, the restaurant’s atmosphere carries a sincere friendliness, where servers move with genuine care, ensuring every visit feels personal without overwhelm. The intimacy of the space invites you to linger a little longer, absorbing small moments—from sharing pupusas fresh off the griddle to the familiar sounds of community chatter.
The heart of the experience lies in the food, which brings you close to the flavors and textures of Salvadoran home cooking. Pupusas stuffed with melty cheese, tender chicharrón, or earthy loroco are accompanied by simple sides like sweet plantains or hearty sancocho, each bite carrying a story that feels both rooted and comforting. Whether it’s a solo visit or gathering with friends, the generous portions encourage sharing and discovering new favorites.
Beyond the flavors, there’s a subtle storytelling in the details: a vinegar-soaked slaw that brightens the rich fillings, tangy sauces that wake the palate, and the satisfying scent of freshly made tamales warming the air. Even the occasional challenge of fitting into the snug parking lot becomes part of the adventure—little reminders that this spot thrives on community and enduring bonds more than convenience.
For those new to Salvadoran cuisine, Pupuseria El Cerro Verde offers a welcoming introduction, while regulars find familiar comforts that echo the taste of home. It’s a place where the food stretches beyond nourishment, inviting connection and quiet celebration, one pupusa at a time.

We enjoyed the restaurant over all - the pupusas were delicious, and the Mojara frita was really good. The only thing we would have enjoyed better was if the drinks weren’t bottled for sit in service. We ordered Horchata and it tasted a bit aged, we couldn’t finish it. Besides that, we also liked the space, relatively small but nice. The service was really good!

Having a great experience. It was my first time tasting Salvadoran food and more than happy to do it. Food really good and tasty, portions are bigger than I imagined. Nice and warm atmosphere. Coming here again if I go back to LA.

Reason for visiting: lunch before a poker session Date/time of visit: Friday afternoon, ~2:30 PM Parking: but difficult to get into and park. If you're coming from 405 South, you have to U-Turn around to get to the parking lot. Once in the parking lot, it's tight; got lucky that there was less people and 1 open spot. if no parking, not sure where'd you park or just have to wait for someone to leave. Parking is free; no valet Party size: 2 Environment/ambience: pretty clean inside; I think they just opened 2-3 months when I visited. Restroom clean too. 2 workers; one spoke English, one didn't so might be easier to come with someone who speaks Spanish. One TV playing Spanish music videos. Service: was great; they made sure we got the right orders, etc. Food: was great too; had the carne asada burrito, no beans . When eating there, they bring all sides and sauces to the table; hot/reg sauces, veggies, etc. All of it was great. If you get your burrito with cheese, they melt the cheese onto the tortilla and then stuff it; pretty good Cost: $31 for 2 burritos, a coke. Would I go back (yes/no): 90/10; 10 b/c of the parking situation

The pupusas were so good, freshly made, Good portion and amazing prices! We each had 2 papusas, plantains and 2 cokes for $33. Outstanding stop on the way to a concert.

I ordered takeout/delivery. After one bite I knew I was eating food from El Salvador. I had the carne asada plate and revueltas that came with a great vinegar slaw. I also got the grilled jalapeño and habanero sauce. So good and so filling. I felt like I was eating in someone’s home.

The pupusas, tamales, and the beef stew were very good. The food came out hot and fresh and was tasty. The restaurant is very new and clean. Be aware that parking is limited.
